Biography:
Gary is a former Marine. He is
the Chairman of the Maine Veteran’s Coordinating Committee. He will be there to explain the goings on in
the committee, and the organization and activities of the Young
Marines. He may be inviting some Young
Marines to attend, so we look forward to a big turnout!

Veteran’s Home
Biography:
Colonel Kash has
served as Chief Executive Officer, Maine Veterans’ Homes (MVH) since October,
2007. Prior to coming to MVH, he
concluded a 23-year career in the United States Air Force, retiring with the
rank of Colonel from the Medical Service Corps.
He attended Colby College graduating with a
Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies and then from the Ohio State University
with Masters in Hospital Administration.
During his career in the Air Force, he held
command of five different units. He was
deployed twice, on the hospital ship USNS Mercy and then to Haiti.
His last active duty posting was as
Commander, 18th Medical Group, Kadena Air
Base, Japan.
He also served as Director, Theater Patient Movement Requirements Center
– Europe in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom from
2002-04.
He is married to the former Ann Nichols; they
have two grown children, Jason and Emily, and reside in Nobleboro.
He is affiliated with the American Legion and
AMVETS.

Biography:
Admiral Johnson is a native of Westmanland, Maine in the County.
He graduated from the University of Maine
with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science.
Following aviation Officer’s Candidate
School, he was commissioned in 1969 and designated a Naval Aviator in 1970
His initial sea duty was in VA-66, flying the
A-7E Corsair 11 and deploying in the USS Independence. He had numerous other sea tours ending with
Commander, Carrier Air Wing Three (USS Eisenhower).
His shore duty assignments included,
Command and Staff College, Naval War College (Graduating with Highest
Distinction) and numerous other assignments ending with a tour as Executive
Assistant to the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Selected for Flag
Rank in 1995, followed by various assignments and ending as Commander, Carrier
Group Eight/USS Theodore Roosevelt. In September 1997 he reported as the Senior
Military Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Defense.
In 1999, he assumed duties as the Senior
Military Assistant to William “Bill” Cohen, then Secretary of Defense.
Awards and Decorations include: The Distinguished Service Medal (2 Oak
Leaves), Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (2 Gold Stars) and
numerous other awards and decorations.
Admiral
Johnson and his wife Joy reside in Harpswell, Maine
